Nigerian female footballer reveals why COD United female team was disbanded

The aftermath of the disbandment of the entire COD United FC female team might not go well with some of the players.
The club which was established by the City of David parish of Redeemed Christian Church of God sacked its entire female team members after the management claimed lack of finance, that the church is embarking on a building project which will gulp billions of naira.

An affected member of the squad Hannah Ikono lamented that the development reached the players as a shock, adding that ladies are always the victims of such situations.
Ughelli born Hannah is an NCE graduate, she dons jersey no 24 for the Lagos based team popularly called Amazons and plays as a midfielder.
Excerpts...
How long have you been playing for COD United?
I have been playing at the club for more than three years now
Were the players being owed before they team got disbanded?
At all, the management did well in that aspect. We are not being owed at all.
Why did they disband the team?
We the players were all surprised when we heard that the management no longer wants us; you know COD United also have a male team. The reason they gave was that the church will not be able to finance the two teams any longer.
According to reports, they want to concentrate on building the church’s new auditorium and need several billions of naira to build it, and that was why we were told to go.
Female training session

The chairperson of the NWFL Aisha Falode has ordered that the affected players join other clubs, where are you heading to?
I would love to play for Kogi Confluence team.
Why?
They had invited me earlier, but now that I available, I hope to be recalled into the team. Also, I like the club and I feel I will settle easily there.
How can you rate the Nigerian female league....is there partiality as regards how the guys are being treated from the girls?
Nigerian Female League, uhmmm…… I must say there's a lot of partiality now because the male players are well respected than the ladies.
The guys are well treated and recognized; they are well paid but the reverse is the case for us ladies.
